Fake tax rebates, fake test kits, fake vaccines. Criminals are pulling out all the stops to make money during the Covid-19 pandemic
It’s not just mask makers and hand sanitiser producers that are benefiting from a boom in business after the outbreak of the coronavirus, fraudsters are also cashing in on fears surrounding the deadly disease.
The explosion in such criminal techniques suggests that fraudsters are fully aware of the panic and anxiety many feel after the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus in China’s Wuhan province in December last year. A number of people on the island were sent messages informing them that they had been issued a rebate of 558 pounds by the government, which they could redeem by clicking through to a link.
