Police have ruled a shooting that left a woman and man dead in Taylorsville on Wednesday a murder-suicide. 34-year-old Amanda Mayne was the cousin of Utah lt. Gov Deidre Henderson.
TAYLORSVILLE, Utah — Police have ruled a shooting that left a woman and man dead in Taylorsville on Wednesday a murder-suicide.
The incident happened in the area of 4700 South 3600 West at about 5 a.m. Officers arrived to find 34-year-old Amanda Mayne dead on the sidewalk from multiple gunshot wounds. During a search of the nearby area, police found 26-year-old Taylor Martin dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers also found a loaded handgun next to Martin's body."Our family is reeling from the devastating and senseless loss of my sweet cousin, cut down in the prime of life — a victim of the sort of violence that has become far too prevalent in our state. We are shocked and grieving. We will miss this precious soul and her golden smile," wrote Henderson.
A passing car was struck by a stray bullet fired by Martin, but the motorist was unrelated to the incident. Roads in the area were closed the entire morning as officials investigated the scene. However, all lanes of traffic around the home and second scenewere open in the area just before 1:30 p.m.
