UPDATE: Police now say the woman was not killed in a drive-by shooting, but was shot by a roommate, who is in custody.
A woman was shot and killed in an El Sereno apartment Tuesday night and a suspect is in custody.
The shooting occurred at an apartment in the 5300 block of Hyde Street at 10:25 p.m., according to Los Angeles police. The victim, a woman in her 30s, was found dead on the balcony of her apartment, police said. She had been shot in the neck. Her name was not immediately released. Los Angeles police had initially reported that the woman was killed in a drive-by shooting while standing on the balcony, but later disclosed that she was believed to have been shot by her roommate. The circumstances that precipitated the shooting were unclear.
