World Games reveals medals featuring Vulcan and Sloss Furnace.
The World Games 2022 today revealed the design of its gold, silver and bronze medals that will be awarded to event winners of the 34 sports that will be played July 7-17 in Birmingham and Hoover.
Winning a medal has great significance for athletes in competitions such as the Olympics and World Games, Chandler said. “It’s just a combination of so much hard work, dedication and sacrifice,” she said. Chandler has just been named Olympic Ambassador for the World Games. She’ll be a liaison to Olympic athletes on behalf of the World Games.
“I hope y’all feel the excitement that I feel,” said Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin, who spoke in the ceremony at the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame on Wednesday morning. “These medals serve as an international symbol of excellence.” More than 3,600 athletes from more than 100 countries are expected to compete in sports such as softball, flag football, gymnastics, dance sport, sumo wrestling, sport climbing, parkour, drone racing and other events.“Just as athletes from around the world will soon step up to seize their moment of glory, this is Birmingham’s moment to step up on the global stage,” said World Games CEO Nick Sellers.
