After record-setting season, receiver Taylor Grimes aiming to keep UIW offense rolling

DUPLICATE***Incarnate Word Cardinals wide receiver Taylor Grimes runs the ball during the third quarter of the opening round FCS playoff against the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks at Benson Stadium in San Antonio, Texas, Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021. The Cardinals defeated the Lumberjacks 35-28 in overtime to advance to the second round of the FCS playoffs.

“Obviously there are going to be some little changes here and there with a new head coach, but he’s done a good job of keeping the same terminology,” Grimes said. “Everything is the same, for the most part.” Taking the reins of a program that ranked in the top five in the FCS in scoring and passing offense, Kinne aimed for consistency, retaining three top offensive assistants from Morris’ staff — “a strategic move by me to make sure this thing keeps on rolling,” Kinne said.

“He’s very tough, mentally and physically, and he possesses great speed,” Kinne said. “He has really strong hands. He’s just a very savvy football player. He understands defenses, and when to get in and out of breaks and all of that good stuff. He’s a complete receiver, and I’m very thankful he’s here.”

Scott has found that Grimes will always answer the call to meet for extra reps on the weekends, describing him as a “great guy, great friend, and great wide receiver.” “I try to stay away from all that as much as I can,” Grimes said. “I’m not a big center of attention, to bring the team together.”
