'In focussing on the good in love over what can go wrong, I am changed'

I’ve just written a novel. It’s my third book but my first made-up fiction story, and it's a romantic comedy about two people who meet through the “Missed Connections” section of their commuter paper.to my agent, she emailed me back to say that for a romantic comedy, what I had produced was not very romantic and so, in turn, not very funny either.she said. I went through my draft again. I could see what she meant.
I’d written central characters who were sweet, but almost everyone else around them was bitter. I had friends of them both cheating and lying, men saying crappy, misogynistic things and women not just being wary of love, but actively avoiding it.Because – the thing is – I find it easier to be caustic and cutting and cynical about romantic relationships than I do to be hopeful.but I have to disagree. When it comes to love the most difficult bit is staying optimistic. Yes, people cheat.
After my agent’s comments, I reassessed where I thought I’d been insightful and pithy, and understood that what I’d written was negative and disheartening. I set about drafting and redrafting, hooking my writing hat on something more positive than I’d come up with before. I wanted to write the open-hearted, modern, genuine love story that my bruised and battered heart needed to read.amazon.co.
