Now I’ve got confirmation of the situation regarding the last affected TV brand: Vizio. And the news is... mixed. Here’s the statement Vizio has just sent me in full:to enable support for Dolby Vision via the Netflix app on the Xbox One platform. TVs connected to the internet will update automatically in the coming weeks. Those waiting for the update can continue to watch Dolby Vision content from the TV’s own Netflix app, or through Chromecast.
What Vizio's statement does not cover, though, is its older 2016 and 2017 models. I'm waiting on clarification on the situation regarding those. As Vizio’s response reminds us, at the time of writing the Xbox One’s Dolby Vision support only works with the console’s Netflix app. So you could argue that up to now the inability of certain Dolby Vision-capable TVs to handle the Xbox’s specific Dolby Vision version hasn’t been a major problem. Pretty much every Dolby Vision-capable TV carries its own Dolby Vision-enabled Netflix app, after all.
