Sharks are in the news once again for... well, being in the ocean. A great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) gave a fishing crew an awesome experience when it swam to the stern of the boat where the fishermen has a bag of ground up fish bait known as 'chum.'

The great white shark is also known as the great white, white shark or white pointer. They are a large shark found worldwide that preys upon a variety of marine animals, including fish, other sharks, marine mammals, and even seabirds.the Asbury Park PressThe captain believes the shark was more than half the size of the boat, or 16 to 18 feet.
Scientists have two different opinions on this encounter:"It's rare," or"It's not that rare." Marie Levine, executive director of the Shark Research Institute in New Jersey, toldthat it was not unusual for a shark to approach a fishing boat or be seen so far away from land. Sharks swimming in the middle of the ocean isn't out of the ordinary, although most of them are not pelagic.
