400,000 signatures later, the White House finally responded to taylorswift13's Equality Act petition
on August 26, she once again encouraged fans to sign. But this time, she used her platform to call out the White House for not responding, despite garnering roughly 500,000 signatures.
"There was a petition, and there still is a petition, for the Equality Act, which basically just says we all deserve equal rights under the law," the pop star said while accepting the Video of the Year award for her anthem.
White House deputy press secretary Judd Deere finally issued a statement on Tuesday, August 27. In it, he explained that while the Trump Administration"opposes discrimination," it doesn't support the bill as it stands right now.
