FBI agents and evidence technicians were spotted removing paving stones at a home on Farm Hill Boulevard and preparing to dig.

REDWOOD CITY — The search for answers in the nearly three-decade-old missing person case of Palo Alto resident Ylva Hagner took authorities to Redwood City this week.

“The case has been refocused and we are conducting an investigation in Redwood City into the whereabouts of Ylva Hagner,” Belmont police Lt. Peter Lotti told CBS Bay Area. Lotti did not return several messages this news organization left for him seeking details about the search.“The FBI is assisting the Belmont today in an investigation in which they are the lead investigative agency,” the FBI said in a statement Wednesday. “At this time we are providing forensic support with our evidence response team.”

Hagner, a 42-year-old native of Sweden and resident of Palo Alto, was last seen the night of Oct. 14, 1996, working at her desk at IXOS Software in Belmont, this news organization reported at the time. When colleagues came to work the next day, they found her computer had not been turned off and her desk was covered in papers.
