There will be one more total lunar eclipse this year, and it's the last chance to see one until 2025.
The partial eclipse is expected to begin around 3:09 a.m., reach totality starting at 4:16 a.m. and ending at 5:42 a.m., and the partial phase will continue until 6:49 a.m.
So lunar eclipses are only possible when both orbits align and the moon is directly behind Earth relative to the sun. If an astronaut was standing on the moon, they would see a red ring around a silhouetted Earth, said Mitzi Adams, astrophysicist at Marshall.
