But there is something about Pedretti’s onscreen manner that lends itself to projects like these—horror shows, bloodywith comedy. As anyone who watchedknows, she can play a character with such fragility that you worry they’re bound to break any moment before your eyes. But asproves, Pedretti can also play the opposite side of that coin when needed—cranking up the dial to 11 and going ham in a fashion as delightfully insane as it is terrifying.
Pedretti found out about the twist roughly halfway through the season—and when asked if it affected her performance, she offered a fascinating reason as to why it didn’t. So much of why no one really sees Love for who she is—including, perhaps, the audience—comes down to the perceptions we project onto people through assumption. Both Pedretti and her character insist that the “clues” about Love’s true nature, if we want to call them that, have been there all along; she didn’t try to hide much of anything. Joe just sees her the way he wants to see her, letting his own narrative about her cloud his understanding of who she actually is.
