22-year-old activist frias_daphne is one of many young people to fall ill with COVID19. She's counting down the days until quarantine ends — and until she can join the global fight against infectious diseases as a medical professional herself.
's Trevor Noah. "So you have a responsibility not only to protect yourself but you almost have a societal, moral responsibility to protect other people."
Frias is echoing the calls of the national and international medical community and urging young people to practice social distancing. “I know it’s a hard time,and people are going stir crazy inside, but...you’re not the only one feeling these things,” she says. “Do what you can to keep people safe so we can keep Americans alive and healthy.”
Frias’s knowledge of health care extends beyond her own COVID-19 diagnosis. Though she is not a medical professional, Frias is a soon-to-be graduate student pursuing a master’s in public health. She’s spent years in and out of hospitals, both as a patient and as an intern, employee, and at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Frias told me she’s counting down the days until quarantine ends, and until she can join the global fight against COVID-19 and other infectious diseases like it as a medical professional herself.
