Downtown might be a jewel, but a letter writer says that during a recent visit to San Antonio’s River Walk, it was a struggle to find a restaurant open past 9 p.m.Re: “Enjoy life, boost city: Visit downtown,” Another View, Wednesday:
According to the San Antonio Business Journal, there are about 35,000 parking spaces downtown, less than one per downtown employee. Not enough for workers, let alone visitors. Exacerbating the volume is location. Many of these parking spaces are not in proximity to attractions. And when they are, they are expensive — up to $20 per day. And smartphone apps aside, finding parking is a blood sport, unaided by helpful directional signage.
It was a struggle to find a restaurant/bar open to take them. The well-known River Walk and downtown restaurants we had bragged about were only open 5 to 9 p.m. and reservations were booked for weeks. We wandered the River Walk being scooted from our favorite spots only to be told they closed at 9 p.m.
