was something to behold. The runway event took place on a block on West 13th Street in the Meatpacking District and, in the immortal words ofon the runway; literal Fendi baguettes ; a cameo from Oscar the Grouch; Kanye West, Symone, Kourtney Kardashian, and Travis Barker in the front row; a performance from Lil Nas X; and 120 runway looks from designers across the world. The show’s finale was, in a golden, body-hugging gown by Zac Posen.
The gown was “meticulously constructed of 8-inch strips of gold lamé horse hair hand-tailored and sculpted to accentuate her magnificence,” according to Posen. While you’d think that kind of process takes time, Posen had just 10 days to finish the dress. “One week ago, I started draping the gold lamé horse hair directly on Precious strip by strip and drafting parts of the pattern myself,” Posen says. “This was a couture process from start to finish—and I’ve loved every second of it.
Lee’s gown was the only one of two dresses to be made custom specifically for the Vogue World runway; Serena Williams wore the other. Knowing that adds a new layer of specialness to the gown, and Posen is quick to thank those who made it possible. “What you can’t see is the extensive and detailed work by truly special ‘hands’ that crafted over 200 yards of glistening golden ribbon,” he says.
