Carlos Daniel Delcid is accused of shooting Officer Gardiel Solorio five times Monday afternoon while trying to rob him in the parking lot outside LA Fitness
while trying to rob him in the parking lot outside LA Fitness, in the 12700 block of Lakewood Boulevard, Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon said at a press conference.Carlos Delcid, 20, of San Pedro, was arrested on suspicion of killing off-duty Monterey Park police Officer Gardiel Solorio Monday night in Downey.
Solorio attempted to back away in his vehicle when Delcid allegedly fired at him at close range, Gascon said. Delcid then jumped back into a passenger door of a vehicle and was driven away by a 17-year-old boy.The district attorney did not take questions from reporters. Some family members of Solorio were present, but did not speak.
He had just graduated from the police academy in July and had started a field training program with the department, July 25, Gordon said.
