Diesel's break-out role as intergalactic criminal Richard B. Riddick debuted in Pitch Black, a sleeper hit in 2000 that featured a small cast and scope due to budget constraints, but its popularity allowed for an increase to both for its 2004 sequel The Chronicles of Riddick.
