New York City, Alaïa is officially back. Since closing the doors of its Soho store in 1991, the city was left without a retail outpost of the French house but last night, Alaïa officially cut the ribbon on a new Soho location—which is located a few doors down from the original flagship. To celebrate the grand opening, fashion veterans, models, and many friends gathered in the boutique on Thursday evening.
We are so thrilled to be back in Soho with the opening of our new flagship store at 149 Mercer street,” Myriam Serrano, Alaïa’s chief executive officer, told. “New York has a special place in the heart of Alaïa, this is where his worldwide success started in the 1980s. I am very happy to celebrate this strong connection 40 years later and at a location that represents the Alaïa spirit so well.
When guests first walked into the story, to the left, they were greeted by a museum-worthy display of Alaïa’s coveted Le Papa handbags. Smack dab in the center of the store, guests were able to peruse a rack of ready-to-wear, which included one of the crocodile jacquard knit skirts worn earlier that day by Rihanna during a Super Bowl press conference. To say the newly opened boutique is a fashion lover’s paradise would be an understatement.
