Heard on the Street: Amazon’s new efforts may re-accelerate growth—at the expense of profits
Amazon.com may be able to make up its own holiday, but the e-commerce giant now also has a lot riding on its ability to make it count.
This year’s Prime Day—Amazon’s designation for an annual blowout summer sale—comes just as the company’s gravity-defying growth shows signs of ebbing. Amazon’s latest quarterly report in April saw revenue growth on a year-over-year basis fall below the 20% mark for the first time since 2015. The next report due later this month is expected to show the same.
