The NiteCap website notes that Marantz Lindenberg got the idea to build her business around the time she was pregnant with her beautiful twin daughters. On the site, she mentions that she began designing and sourcing fabrics for the business circa 2018. That is a year in which Google existed, and a year that all of the aforementioned companies and brands already existed, too.
When you're building a business, you do research into companies that may be similar to yours so you can figure out how to separate yourself from the pack, if there is one. I don't know the extent or intricacies of Marantz Lindenberg's research, but I would imagine she would have come across any of the aforementioned brands and should have known that her idea wasn't really novel at all.
It just doesn't make sense to me. NiteCap has since released a statement apologizing for being culturally insensitive: “A small business grew quickly, but in the process, I failed to connect it back to the broader historical context.” While acknowledging the significance and prevalence of head ties in certain cultures is important, to act as if this was some sort of bright idea, something that wasn’t already available on the market is just plain silly.
