But the Greyhounds definitely didn’t go down without a fight.
“Only one Class 4A team in the state of Texas is going to be glad when the season is over,” said Boerne coach Bill Merrell, who became emotional when describing his team’s effort. “I told the kids before the first game that all I’m asking them to do is to go out and play hard and they did that all day. They played with a lot of guts and I couldn’t be prouder.”
“ got hit pretty hard on Thursday and he came out tonight and turned it completely around,” said Merrell. “All of our guys pitched well. I can’t give them enough praise.” Saturday’s Game 2 opener saw Boerne score first in the bottom of the first to go up 1-0. Calallen responded with a run in the top of the second to tie it at 1 and it stayed that way until the bottom of the fifth, when the Greyhounds scored again to take a 2-1 lead.
