James Medcraft/Jason Bruges StudioJason Bruges: We were invited to create the installation in February 2018, as a new commission from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Arts Council Tokyo, with support from the British Council.I am fascinated by human movement and we were researching the patterns that could be created and how these might be represented using machines.
Is this connection to the motor car — such a strong symbol of industry and modernity and now waste and climate — important to what you were projecting with this installation? Navigating the human/machine relation is extremely topical. I’m interested to hear your thoughts on the potentials of robotics and machine learning systems, of AI and so on, in advancing our human lives?
