Ford reportedly died Tuesday night due to heart failure.
He was a native of Atlantic City who played his college ball at Villanova before the Detroit Pistons took him in the second round of the 1972 NBA Draft. After his playing days, he worked with the Celtics as an assistant from 1983-1990, and then took over as the team’s head coach in 1990 and held that job through the 1995 season. He also had head coaching stops with the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers and Brandeis University. He worked as an assistant with the Philadelphia 76ers from 2003-2004, closing out the 2004 campaign as the team’s interim coach.
