The new trailer for Call Me Kat season 3's upcoming episode sets up 30 Rock star Jack McBrayer as a replacement for the late Leslie Jordan's Phil.
New Call Me Kat video introduces 30 Rock star Jack McBrayer as a replacement for Leslie Jordan's Phil. The Fox comedy stars Big Bang Theory actor Mayim Bialik as the eponymous Kat, a 39-year-old single woman who runs a cat café in Louisville while navigating friendships, love, and career aspirations. Call Me Kat also featured the veteran comedian Leslie Jordan as Phil, the gay, sweet-as-pie head baker at Kat's Café.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Now, Fox has shared a new promo for Call Me Kat's upcoming episode 312, "Call Me Ichabod Evel Knievel," which premieres Thursday, January 26 at 9.30/8.30c. The clip features Jack McBrayer, best known for his role as Kenneth Parcell in the NBC comedy 30 Rock, as the new baker, Gideon, stepping into Phil's shoes after Leslie Jordan's death.
As the video highlights, Kat will hire McBrayer's Amish baker Gideon and introduce him to her inner circle, where his nativity will leave everyone baffled. Currently, it's not clear if McBrayer's role is a one-off or whether he will appear in future episodes. Call Me Kat season 3 eventually paid tribute to Jordan after the show returned from its Christmas hiatus. At the end of episode 310, "Call Me Philliam," the cast broke the fourth wall to eulogize Jordan, following which Dolly Parton delivered a heartwarming tribute to the comedian with her and Jordan's duet "Where the Soul Never Dies," scoring a montage of scenes of Phil.
Call Me Kat's handling of Jordan's untimely death plays a part in preserving the comedy icon's joyful and comforting legacy. True, the void left by Jordan can never be filled, but as those who love him cope with the loss, they can find some solace in the happy ending of his final TV role. Right now, Call Me Kat is experimenting with different characters and trying to gauge the response from viewers, so it's not necessary that McBrayer would stick around.
