The new owners took over the 114-year-old store on Jan. 1.

But, co-owner Kevin Fague says that he’s not making any changes to the longtime hardware store.A dozen employees work at the store and all were retained.Former owner, Jack Ritter also still works at the store part-time.“It’s been there for over 100 years, and it’s not going anywhere,” he said.

The Fagues are no strangers to purchasing a longtime hardware store. Eight years ago, they purchased Pague & Fegan True Value in Shippensburg, which was founded in 1856 and is still in the same location, although it’s been expanded over the years. It is the oldest hardware store in the state, according to Fague. And they were looking to expand.

In 2019, Winchell said he was looking to retire and sell both the building and the hardware store in Mechanicsburg as well as Ritters True Value Hardware Lemoyne. The store in Lemoyne closed in 2020. Winchell first worked at the store in Mechanicsburg for many years before purchasing it. In total he worked at the store for around 50 years.
