In his fourth year with the Chicago Bulls, Patrick Williams is seeking to make a larger impact on both ends of the court.

Williams’ third year repeated the patterns that have defined his career — too timid on the boards, too hesitant with the ball in his hands, showing flashes of promise that never evolved into consistent production. The result was a slip from a hopeful position in the starting lineup to a regular role in the secondary rotation, a demotion that sharpened the spotlight on the former No. 4 draft pick.

“I wanted to be more consistent. I wanted to play-make a little bit more,” Williams said. “I think I have the skill to do it. The opportunity was there. I don’t think I grasped it.” Chicago Bulls forward Patrick Williams drives the ball around Memphis Grizzlies forward Santi Aldama during a game on April 2, 2023, at the United Center in Chicago.

Executive vice president of basketball operations Artūras Karnišovas reiterated confidence in Williams from the Bulls front office during exit interviews in April.
