Timothy Rigas was found guilty in 2004 two years after the television cable company his father founded declared bankruptcy.

WILLIAMSPORT – It has been more than two decades since former television cable giant Adelphia Communications Corp. declared bankruptcy and its top officials were indicted for illegally using company money.

Rigas and his father John, who founded Adelphia in Coudersport in the 1950s, were indicted in 2002 in New York City and found guilty two years later on charges that included conspiracy to commit securities fraud, wire fraud and making false statements. Another son, Michael J. Rigas, also was charged. The jury could not reach a verdict in his 2004 trial on conspiracy and fraud charges.

Timothy Rigas was released from prison in 2019, placed on federal location monitoring and on Jan. 13, 2022, began a two-year term of supervised release.
