The Florida judge overseeing the federal classified documents case against former President Donald Trump set a trial date for May 20, 2024. Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump appointee, rejected the Trump team’s request to indefinitely delay the trial until after the 2024 election. However, she also said special counsel Jack Smith’s requested date of December 11, 2023 was “atypically accelerated and inconsistent with ensuring a fair trial.
