Baylan is one of Ahsoka's 'fallen Jedi.'
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary Baylan Skoll’s Jedi backstory and connection to Anakin Skywalker are essential to understanding his role in Ahsoka. Set around nine years after the fall of the Empire in Return of the Jedi, Ahsoka does not feature the usual Star Wars villains. The Sith would only return decades later in Star Wars: Episode III - The Rise of Skywalker, and the Imperial Inquisitors’ Order ended with Darth Vader’s death.
Baylan Served With Anakin Skywalker During The Clone Wars Baylan Skoll only left the Jedi Order after the Clone Wars, as stated by Huyang in Ahsoka episode 1. In other words, Baylan Skoll served during the Clone Wars alongside other Jedi such as Anakin Skywalker. Even though there were thousands of Jedi during the prequels, Anakin was one of the most famous Jedi Knights during that period. As such, it would make sense for any Jedi from that era to have at least heard of Anakin.
Baylan Was Already Unusual Even Among The Jedi Baylan is already one of the most unique Star Wars characters, as he is neither a Jedi nor a Sith – not even the term "Inquisitor" can describe him. However, Baylan was already unique even among the Jedi. According to Huyang, who has data for every lightsaber built in the original Jedi Temple in the last 20,000 years, Baylan’s lightsaber was singular. More specifically, no one had used a similar lightsaber in the last 500 years.
It does not seem like Baylan Skoll is a clone, yet the idea of a villain that is not a Dark Lord like Darth Vader or the Emperor matches Joruus C'baoth’s role in Heir to the Empire. Baylan is also a mirror to Ahsoka, as both of them have followed unusual paths. Ahsoka is not a Jedi, yet she still has faith in most of the values the Jedi used to follow. Baylan, on the other hand, has “lost faith” and is now closer to the dark side of the Force than to the Jedi Way.
