Amazon Studios head Vernon Sanders teases The Lord of the Rings: TheRingsOfPower's season 3 renewal may be right around the corner. 'We are absolutely committed, we have every reason to be excited. They’ve done a tremendous job.'
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 3 renewal news may be just on the horizon. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1 has been a record-breaking success for Amazon, starting with 25 million viewers in its first day, and growing into 24 billion minutes watched overall. The series was renewed for season 2 before season 1 had even aired, hinting at a bright future for the series that Amazon has already crafted a plan for set to span all the way through season 5.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In an interview with Deadline, Sanders says that news about The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 3 can be expected some time in 2023. He underscores Amazon's commitment to creating the series in full while also hinting at a season 3 reveal prior to when season 2 starts airing. Check out what Sanders had to say below:
We are absolutely committed, we have every reason to be excited. They’ve done a tremendous job. It’s a great question about Season 3, we’re probably two to three months in on Season 3, but I think there could be news certainly in the new year. There’s so much planning and prep that’s necessary for us to get this mounted that the only reason we probably haven’t gotten there quite yet is we’ve just been so heads down in Season 2, but I would expect there to be news in the new year.
The staggering budget of the show is not the only reason why Amazon would want to produce every season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power that has been planned out so far. Unlike many TV series, whose seasons aren't planned in advance, showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have already mapped out the entire series from start to finish. Back in June, Payne revealed that the duo already know what The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power's last shot is going to be.
Both budgetary and story-based incentives make it clear that Amazon will keep producing new seasons of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, so long as the series continues to maintain its current levels of popularity. With so many record-breaking streaming numbers to its name, it doesn't seem like the fantasy series will be losing traction any time soon. Season 2 is already on the horizon, teasing a story with more involvement from Sauron and battles spanning multiple episodes.
