Maryland opens up a scholarship program hoping to get young people vaccinated.
The daily average of new cases has tripled in the last month, driven in part by the delta variant, with hospitalizations on the rise in 36 states amid growing concern about unvaccinated kids.Maryland Gov. Hogan announced earlier this month, the launch of the $1 million VaxU scholarship program. The effort is to incentivize those eligible, kids between 12-17 to get vaccinated against COVID-19, the governor said.
“The virus, and its variants are a dangerous threat to you,” Hogan said. “Getting vaccinated is the only way to protect yourself and to continue on our recovery.” The funding behind these scholarships comes from the American Rescue Plan which distributed more than $360 billion in emergency funding to state and local governments.
