The walls and roof collapsed of a boarded-up restaurant that caught fire in an East Bay Strip mall on Friday morning.
Flames were first reported at 4 a.m. outside the former Imperial Seafood restaurant in Concord, said Joe Ottolini, a spokesperson for the Contra Cost County Fire Protection District. When firefighters arrived on scene, the fire was eating into the building's interior and flames eventually tore into the attic.
"As crews were making entry, the walls of the building collapsed, so we pulled out and went into defensive mode," Ottolini told SFGATE over the phone."We started fighting the fire from the exterior.""It was a single alarm fire but it became complicated once the fire got into the attic," he said. This isn't the first time firefighters have responded to a blaze at the shuttered restaurant, but it is the biggest.
