Here's an interesting nugget of information from an investor call about Nintendo's policy on price drops for the Switch, which seems to apply to Black Friday as well:

Nintendo has never approached pricing like other large game companies, whether we’re talking about hardware or software. If I go online right now, I can buyfor between $40-$50, a pretty meager discount for a game that came out in 2017. By way of contrast, I could buy Sony’s–another single-player critically-lauded console exclusive–for about $20, and that came out in 2018. Nintendo are just not big discounters, and that logic applies to their hardware as well.

It’s not surprising, but it’s still sort of remarkable given how video game console pricing usually works. The PlayStation 4 launched at $399.99 in 2013, but that price started to go down two years in, and you could pick the thing up for less than $300 at Black Friday 2015. Xbox saw even more aggressive price cuts, but that was also due to Microsoft uncoupling the Kinect 2.0.

I don’t expect this to change any time soon. Ironically, the introduction of new Xbox and PlayStation consoles will likely extend the amount of time that the Switch can stick at $299: right now the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 typically represent better deals than the Switch, that almost definitely won’t be true of the next consoles.
