COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS - SEPTEMBER 10: KaRon White #93 of the Appalachian State Mountaineers celebrates defeating the Texas A&M Aggies 17-14 at Kyle Field on September 10, 2022 in College Station, Texas. COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M is playing a stairstep schedule of allegedly increasingly tougher teams to start the season. The No. 6 Aggies appeared fortunate for the setup – all the way until they inexplicably slipped on the second stair on Saturday.
The highlight-reel play was reminiscent of Achane’s 96-yard kick return for a touchdown that proved the difference in A&M’s 41-38 toppling of top-ranked Alabama last season. This time around, Achane appeared to be tackled around midfield during his sprint along the right sideline before regaining his footing and finishing the job – although the Aggies as a whole failed to finish theirs.
A&M played without center Bryce Foster, cornerback Jaylon Jones and defensive lineman McKinnley Jackson for a second straight week, along with defensive lineman Walter Nolen and linebacker Andre White, the last who broke up two passes and forced a fumble in the season-opening 31-0 victory over Sam Houston a week prior.
