Danny Lockwood, 43, fatally beat Jesus Castillo, 67, after Castillo stole marijuana plants from Lockwood’s home, police say.
OAKLAND — A 43-year-old Oakland man accepted a plea deal that offered him a three-year prison term and dropped murder charge in exchange for a no-contest plea to manslaughter, court records show.
According to Oakland police, Lockwood attacked Castillo on July 6, 2020, after Castillo took plants in five-gallon buckets from Lockwood’s home on the 1000 block of 98th Avenue in Oakland. Lockwood punched and kicked Castillo, knocking him to the ground, then slammed one of the potted plants onto Castillo’s head, authorities said. He later allegedly told police he only punched Castillo four times and never hid him with a potted plant.
