Laura Lowena-Irons designed and made her own wedding dress for an intimate ceremony in Somerset, England.
For most women, choosing a wedding dress is an endless process of trial and error that takes multiple stores, appointments, and fittings before finding. But for a fashion designer with a singular aesthetic and the wish to design her own dress, it might actually be more difficult. Laura Lowena-Irons, half of the creative director team behind the popular British-Bulgarian label, made up her mind early on in her engagement to design her own dress with her co-designer Emma Chopova.
“Initially, I thought I wanted something strappy and I thought I wanted a tartan dress. I just thought ‘You’ve got to have tartan,’” Lowena-Irons says of the pattern that makes up the bulk of most Chopova Lowena collections. “We flocked and printed a tartan fabric that arrived months before the wedding and….” Silence and furtive glances fill the pair’s Zoom screen.it,” Chopova says with a burst of laughter. “I actually don’t hate it. It was just going to be kind of weird.
A closer look at the hand-beading by Emma Chopova on the collar, complemented by a bouquet by Bramble and Wild.“We tweaked it a little in the bodice and the skirt got poufier, but we knew the special bits were going to be in the details,” Lowena-Irons continues. She chose to pair it with Jiwinaia necklace, Iva Minkova pointed-toe heels, and a lush floral arrangement by Bramble and Wild, alongside some special additions arranged by Chopova.
