Freshman Jaxsen Stokes had a 99-yard kick return for a touchdown to get Sierra Canyon rolling.
CHATSWORTH – It was senior night for the Sierra Canyon High School football team on Friday night, but it was a freshman who jump-started the impressive 44-6 win over visiting Chaminade, capping off an undefeated regular season.
“I’ll tell you, that’s one talented freshman and we’re so fortunate to have him on our team,” said Sierra Canyon coach Jon Ellinghouse. “And no doubt, that was a big moment in this game and got us going.” Chaminade added its final score with 21 seconds to go in the first half when Sayeri hit his second field goal – this time from an impressive 50 yards out.
“I just told my kids don’t lose sight of what you’ve done,” said Ellinghouse. “For us, we just completed a perfect season. I couldn’t be more proud of our team and we’ve done some really special things at this point and we’ve got to enjoy it.”Prior to the victory, offensive lineman Eugene ‘B.J.’ Brooks was honored as the program’s newest All-American. He garnered Under All-America status – one of the 100 players nationwide to earn the status.
