With shoppers open to private-label brands at grocery stores (they go wild over Trader Joe’s products), it makes sense for Target to boost its food business
. The new brand, called Good & Gather , rolls out with 650 products in Target stores on September 15; all 2,000-plus items will be available by late 2020.. The retailer said that nearly 75 percent of customers in stores add at least one food item to their shopping baskets.
But until now, fresh food has been more of an afterthought, as customers haven’t sought out Target as a destination for groceries like they might with Walmart.
