The University of Alaska Fairbanks women’s and men’s basketball teams showcased exciting performances in their recent games. The women's team staged a near-comeback but ultimately fell short, while the men's team secured their second consecutive win.
One finished a couple buckets short of surmounting a 15-point deficit. The other beat an in-conference opponent to win their second game in a row. Both the University of Alaska Fairbanks women’s and men’s basketball teams put together performances on Saturday that got fans amped up and out of their seats in the final moments of the teams’ respective matchups. The Nanooks women staged a near-comeback against Northwest Nazarene Saturday, but ultimately fell 74-69.
After losing the opening quarter 27-12, the UAF squad picked themselves up and got the edge in each of the ensuing periods. UAF went on to outshoot the Nighthawks from the floor and from behind the arc, and a 6-0 run in the fourth quarter reduced the difference to two with four minutes left in the game. But the Nanooks form wavered in the final phases as the Nighthawks sunk a few buckets to restore some of their lead, and the game ended with a five-point difference favoring Northwest Nazarene
