Police officers lifted the tree enough to pull the woman out from under it and began lifesaving efforts, but the woman died a short time later.
A 68-year-old woman was killed when a tree fell on her while she was riding a bicycle, according to Clearfield police.A bicyclist was killed Wednesday when a tree fell on top of her on a Clearfield bike trail.
According to police, the 68-year-old woman was riding on the Rio Grand Trail between 200 South and 300 North as a “thunderstorm and strong winds” blew though the area. According to a witness, the winds blew the tree over on the victim — whose name has not been released — shortly after 7 p.m. When Clearfield police officers arrived, they found the victim pinned under the fallen tree. The officers lifted the tree enough to pull the woman out from under it, and began lifesaving efforts. Medical personnel from the North Davis Fire District arrived and tried to save the woman, who was transported to a hospital. She died of her injuries a short time later.
The paved bike trail through the area remained closed Thursday morning while police investigated, but “initial information suggests this was a tragic accident likely caused by high winds blowing a tree down,” according to a Clearfield police news release.
