As a huge favorite against an FCS opponent, the Roadrunners will look to prioritize health and refine a few areas of need ahead of next week’s Conference USA opener.
Brenden Brady will continue to carry the load for UTSA against Texas Southern. Brady has three touchdowns.Preparing for a brutal three-game nonconference stretch of Houston, Army and Texas, UTSA coach Jeff Traylor was worried about two things: confidence and health.
Traylor trimmed periods off this week’s practices to keep the Roadrunners fresh, and linebacker Trey Moore said options across the roster are prepared to step up. Kevin Davis is expected to play on the offensive line Saturday, but UTSA has seven offensive linemen and four expected to miss “a significant amount of time.”“They’re getting closer. Obviously, we’re just trying to buy time with them,” Traylor said. “Just because of injuries, we might have to go ahead and play them. We’ll have to see.”
“We know they have good skill guys who can hurt us,” Moore said. “We know they’re playing hard and are going to come into the game with the mindset that they’re the underdogs. They’re going to bring it to us, and we have to bring it right back to them.”Even with a bit of a lighter workload this week, Traylor said the Roadrunners’ Tuesday and Wednesday practices were “two of the best ones we’ve ever had.
