As of Sunday, fire evacuations are only voluntary at this time, according to Spring Branch fire officials. Spring Branch Middle School is no longer serving as an evacuee center.

JBSA officials previously told KSAT that there was a mandatory evacuation order for residents north of Camp Bullis on the Comal County side and in the Oak Ridge and Georg Oaks neighborhood. A massive brush fire continues to tear through the demolition range area on JBSA-Camp Bullis, spanning 2,803 acres on Sunday, according to Joint Base San Antonio officials.Earlier reports from JBSA indicated the fire had spanned 4,000 acres; however, this has been corrected with accurate GPS mapping.

According to Texas A&M Forest Service, fire crews conducted a tactical firing operation overnight to remove unburned vegetation between containment lines and the fire’s edge in an effort to help secure the lines.At last check, no injuries have been reported and no buildings have been damaged, JBSA officials said. Service members who are training in the area have been pushed back to a safe distance.

The fire began around 2:30 p.m., Saturday, after it ignited on a training range. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.JBSA’s fire departments from Camp Bullis, Fort Sam Houston, Lackland, Randolph, San Antonio Fire Department, a Leon Creek fire department and others are all responding to the call,According to Meteorologist Sarah Spivey, winds are coming from the south, causing smoke from the fire to blow into Kendall County and Comal County.
