Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts hitless in Netherlands' victory over Cuba to start World Baseball Classic
The 30-year-old shortstop was 1-for-9 with an RBI, a walk and two strikeouts in four games in Cactus League play before joining his countrymen for the WBC.
Bogaerts signing an 11-year, $280 million deal with the Padres all but ended hope that fellow countrymanwould return to San Diego after opting out of his contract after the season, at least at the salary he was hoping. The switch-hitting Profar remains unsigned.
