Sanger’s goal is to get the attention of big tech and affect some form of change — preferably granting people more control over their data

Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger is mad as hell and not going to take social-media anymore — at least for two days.

“The power of social media has centralized, and we need to push back,” Sanger told MarketWatch in a phone interview late Tuesday. “This isn’t a strike against all of tech, but a few bad actors.” Also read: Silicon Valley congressman says, ‘It is embarrassing how technologically illiterate most members of Congress are’

Despite news coverage in the U.S., England, Brazil, Germany and elsewhere, only 1,300 have signed Sanger’s blog in support. No physical protest is planned. And Sanger is unaware of any Wikipedia page dedicated to the boycott, which falls on a holiday that is a popular for photo and video posts.

Revisiting the Stupid Slapstick Comedy Weekend at Bernie's in the Dead of SummerRevisiting the Stupid Slapstick Comedy Weekend at Bernie's in the Dead of SummerWeekend at Bernie’s hit theaters 30 years ago, on July 5, 1989, and went on to become one of the stupidest movies ever made. The opening plays like a quirky homage to summertime in New York City. Two guys—Andrew McCarthy as Larry, and Jonathan Silverman as Richard—walk through Central Park on a Sunday, on their way to putting in overtime at their insurance job. It’s so hot out that when a white dude in the park attempts a stick-up with a gun in broad daylight (you have to just play along), Larry tells him, “Get your ass outta here. It’s too hot.” Kids splash around fire hydrants, and “Hot and Cold,” by an R&B singer named Jermaine Stewart, soundtracks the opening scene.
