Stella McCartney has been collaborating with Adidas for 14 years now, nearly as long as she’s been showing her eponymous collections on the runway. Looking back at her earliestyears, the clothes looked a lot more “fashion” than they do now—think: ruffles, sheer fabrics, and floaty volumes. McCartney began to strip things back a few years ago, anticipating the shift towards athlesiure and obsessive fitness.
The problems with those materials are likely to catch up to McCartney’s competitors soon. Sustainability is a growing conversation in the world of “regular” fashion, and people are beginning to question the environmental impact of their favorite leggings, too. McCartney opts to use as much recycled polyester as she can, which has a lower carbon footprint than if she used “virgin” polyester and nylon.
